Welcome to the InStep web site InStep is an electronic trading community of insurers, software houses, insurance intermediaries and other related parties operating in the motor and household area. The InStep Standards are based at the offices of Polaris UK Ltd, 100 Fenchurch Street, London EC3M 5JD (020 7265 5750) where dedicated staff handle their maintenance and publication. We act as the central point of reference for questions or guidance regarding the use of the standards in the insurance industry. The InStep Standards continue to be developed and refined to meet changing business needs within the insurance industry. Our messages and code lists support the full insurance cycle from new business proposals through to claims, via amendments and renewals. The main deliverable of the service is an electronic manual (called Online) which gives a precise specification for each of the messages and the latest version of the code lists - which in turn enable insurers to transact specific business functions. InStep is a subscription based service with membership giving access to the standards and custom built software to view and use them. Full details of the InStep service and how to join are contained in the information pack. The Electronic Trading Practices Group (ETPG) governs InStep activities. It meets approximately eight times a year, and attendance is open to InStep member organisations, and guests by invitation. ETPG maintains links with other groups that have an interest in electronic trading eg the Electronic Trading Insurer Group (ETIG). In the past InStep, in conjunction with the Association of British Insurers (ABI), promoted and maintained the Industry Standard Vehicle Code Lists.
